Applications

Mesh can be used for a wide variety of applications. Only your imagination sets the limit. There are meshes that are fully flexible in all directions and can be stretched in strange shapes. There are meshes that can be used to constrain movement of people while keeping the visual connections. Below you can see some examples of possible applications.

Building Envelope

The most common use of mesh is to cover facades with a secondary decorative layer. It is important that the mesh layer becomes part of the design at an early stage to ensure that it becomes an integrated part of the final architecture.

Sun Protection

Depending on the open area of the selected material and how it sits on the facade (or elsewhere) mesh materials work very well as a sun screen. The shadow cast by an intricate mesh will change with the moving sun and add a special depth to the facade.

Security, Protection and Ventilation Combined

For protective spaces, for example like parking garages, mesh has three functions: Security; a decorative element; and providing the “inner” space with ample outside air and transparency. A Night Closure system has been developed for public spaces. Click here to read more about Night Closure.

Room Dividers

Mesh is perfect to divide spaces with something acting as a textile curtain, albeit being impossible to penetrate. Also, the great openness of most mesh provides glimpses of what is behind the screen, naturally enticing the person looking for what is “hidden” behind.

Vertical Protection Curtains

Many of the mesh materials can either be rolled up or “folded-up” to provide an openable enclosure. The ringmesh for example is being more and more used to close off areas for example in airports.

Mesh & Light

By clever use of lights mesh can alter color at night creating exciting formations and luster.  Mesh can also be used to “protect” underlying billboards while maintaining the visibility of what is being displayed.
